September 11, 2001 was my 27th birthday. I remember being at the doctor's office when I first started hearing reports on the radio. The first report I heard was that our nation was under attack. "Under attack?" I thought. A million thoughts went through my mind. With such a vague report, anything was possible. I wondered how many people were affected, and how close these attacks come come to Winston-Salem.
I still celebrate each birthday, as a gift from God. But, it will always be associated with the saddest day in modern American History
